I have to clear some space on my calendar to replace the lamp in my television. The other day I turned it on and saw a message on the screen indicating that my lamp was dying. Luckily, I was able to pick up a new lamp at a reasonable price. However, its things like this that make me wonder if I would have been better getting a plasma television instead. I shyed away from the plasma because I wasn’t sure if I wanted a television hanging on my wall but since then several friends have purchased plasmas and none have had trouble with their plasma mounts.

Those of you lucky enough to live in the southern part of the U.S. have the advantage to be able to use your pools and spas year round. This is the time of year when those of us in the north get to enjoy a bit of that. However, if its been nearly a year since you have last used your spa you may need to do a bit of maintenance before its ready to go. While everyone knows the make sure the thermostat is in proper working condition spa covers are one of the things people tend to forget. You will want to be especially careful if you live in an area with a lot of children since spas do present a bit of a danger to small children.

I’m thinking of heading out today to take a look at some ellipticals. I have been looking into getting a new piece of exercise equipment and an elliptical seems like a great choice. My knees aren’t in the best shape so I do need something that is low impact, making an eliptical perfect. The problem is I don’t know a lot about this particular segment of the market since any experience I have had in the past was with treadmills and bikes. However, I’m always looking to learn something new so it should be a good time.

I’ve been looking into netbooks as a possible Christmas present but so far have come away unimpressed. While I don’t expect them to have the processing power of a laptop they are definitely lacking in functionality. What I want is something small and light that I can use to do extremely light office work. However, most netbooks come with slow processors and only 1GB of ram. Although the ram problem is an easy fix by just buying a 2GB stick of laptop memory and replacing the stock RAM the processor is something that can’t be worked around. I’m told the next generation of netbooks will have upgraded ATOM processors that rival those in low-end laptops, so I guess the netbook will have to wait until next Christmas.

Although I do have a Wii, most of the times I play games on my computer. You see, while the Wii console is enough video gaming for my girlfriend for me it is pretty lacking. I grew up in a time when I was always looking for the next graphical masterpiece, so to be satisfied I need a bit more horsepower. My computer is pretty top of the line and has as much graphical horsepower as any computer on the market. The problem is in order to enjoy gaming, I have to be tethered to my computer desk. Luckily for me, the xbox 360 solves my problem, it has the power of my PC but I can play it from my couch. So, it looks like I may be picking up an xbox 360 this Christmas or shortly thereafter. Hopefully all of the hints I have been dropping will pan out but if not I will be going out the day after Christmas to pick up a new gaming console.
