Can you hear them now?
While AT&T has had their flag firmly planted on top of the mobile phone service hill for quite some time all of that is about to change. Verizon Wireless has agree to acquire Alltell the nations fifth largest provider of wireless phone service. This move would make Verizon Wireless the new king of the hill with a total of 80 million subscribers while AT&T has only 71 million. While this is only the latest in a series of wireless phone service mega-deals only time will tell if this will turn out like the AT&T/Cingular deal or like the Sprint/Nextel mega-blunder. In any case when you take the dollars and cents out of it the customers should end up on the winning side in the form of expanded coverage and greater reliability.
